FUN IN MERIDIAN 2012

                                                       Welcome to Meridian, ID
We are living in Meridian, Idaho and we love it.  It's much much bigger than Hurricane, Utah but surprisingly it feels kind of rural.  It is right next to Boise, Idaho and we have a quick shot into town, but we really never need to go there, because we have almost everything we need right here!  Since we got here in August we've had some fun getting to know the area.
We went to a hot air balloon exhibit at night to see them lit and glowing.  You can also see the moon is starting to rise just over a mountain peak- it was so pretty!!

We went to Ann Morrison Park.  Now you haven't seen a park until you see the parks they have in Idaho!!  This park is huge!!  The trees are Huge, the fountains are huge, the people are...... jk, just a lot of them.  Fabulous parks here.
Amanda wasn't trying to gouge out Errin's eye, she was pulling her hair out of her face :)

We made The BEST carmel apples with the BEST Golden Delicious apples we've ever had, courtesy of the wonderful church orchard we have in Caldwell, Idaho!!
                                                           Where Waldo/Errin?
The night of the balloon festival we went to a drive in restaurant that served really good baked potatoes!  Errin was in heaven because they looked like a potato, but it was a wad of ice cream shaped like a potato rolled in cocoa and had whip cream on top!!  Delicious, but not worth the $6.00 it cost.  But we have officially eaten a ice cream potato in Meridian, IDaho.

We have an amazing park right around the corner that has three baseball fields, nice ones, with safety wrap on the fences so if you run for a foul ball and try to catch it- you can't fall over the fence!!  They have a wonderful sand volleyball court. They have gazebos and picnic tables and trees and treees and treees, and they have a lovely duck pond that you can fish in!  All with a nice walking/biking path to enjoy the view!

We decided to have a boat race at the pond because we couldn't get to the river without falling from the steep banks INTO the river..... and there was a slight movement in the pond to get our boats moving.  Jacob created a boat with a wind up oar system with  balloon propulsion. It was awesome, but it only had a short spurt of engineering and then it was reduced to a floatation device.  Still he won for most advanced.

Mine was a milk jug with a sail on top. I taped a big balloon to the bottom but it kind of made the boat sit funny in the water, I ended up ripping it off. Had I laminated my sail it would have proven the most sea worthy, cuz when it tipped over and my plain skinny white sheet of paper got wet, it lost it's sail-power . Errin made hers out of a tin pan and it was really sturdy....it didn't have any problems, but it wasn't fast like mine!! Ivory also used a milk jug and she put a balloon inside the jug to give it a real thrust, but in blowing it up it burst..... so that wasn't good! Amanda made hers out of a sturdy cell phone box that had a coating. she put a sail in hers as well, then she added styrofoam. Not sure why that appealed to her and we later discovered it is an environmental hazard as ducks think it's food. Harry chose cardboard as well and although cleverly taped to keep it water-proof, it wasn't really.  This was very fun, and again, I won- in the long run as mine moved furthest, slowest and most consistently even after the water soaking sail debacle! Jacob won for coolest and fastest off the line, but we all felt like winners with this activity, because we kept having NEW events to race. Fastest, most circles, nicest looking, most stable, most stationary..... you get the idea.

Ivory won for the coolest idea in how to fish the boats out of the water as it is illegal to get in the water to fetch them yourself. We weren't sure if they meant it when they said violators would be prosecuted, so she lashed together some willow bows and thwaped the boats all back to safety, except Amanda's.  Jacob thought sinking it was the answer and that's when the styrofoam floated out of range. We hatched a plan to return the next day and fish them out of the water..... if they were still there.  OOOps.... not too many pieces left upon return. Well we tried and there are still a lot of ducks, so I think we're ok.

Weedle has been practicing for a dance that the youth will do for the rededication of the Boise, Idaho Temple.
The Temple has been redone and it is magnificent. Stunning and I can't wait until November 18th when it will be rededicated.  In all of our living by Temples our kids haven't had many opportunities to see a Temple prior to dedication.  Jacob, Gabe, Brittany and Brooke were able to go with us to see the Mt. Timpanogos Temple in American Fork with Gramma Stoller and Gramma Banks, back in the 90's, but Brooke was a toddler. Anyway, Errin and Amanda were amazed and touched, I wish we had time to sit and feel- but we went on a busy day and there was a new born baby screaming for a lot of the tour.  Still it was fantastic and beautiful. Something to remember.
There we are... up to date.

IT'S HALLOWEEN 2012

      HaLlOwEeN  2012

It's one of our favorite times of year!!  We search for pumpkins, pick out a stencil and cut with precision until our hands ache!  Then we show off our creations and clean up the mess- who doesn't love that?!

This year we add Ivory to our skill team and we had Errin's friend Harry over to see how he wields a knife, he didn't cut anyone!!  We had fun and this is what we created.  We are working on a first time relief carving, but it isnt ready as of yet, so it will be added as completed.  Possibly next year.  They are tough!!

Did the relief carving...... Note for next year -don't use serrated carving knives and potato peelers!!  Buy the real tools!.  Don't use pumpkins that shred like spaghetti squash or the image will shred!

Jake and Ivory taped plastic up against Errin and Amanda's door to surprize them early this morning!!
                       Happy Halloween!!

TIME OUT FOR WOMEN SLC 2012

                        Time Out For Women!! 2012

Gramma, Brittany, Brooke, Ivory and I went to Salt Lake City for a girls-weekend at the Salt Palace. Having never been to this event I wasn't sure what to expect. The speakers were familiar, the topic was "Seek the Good" and with music in the mix it just had to be good!! It didn't disappoint!  I had a fantastic time! It was uplifting, it was funny, it was inspiring, it was thought provoking- it "filled my cup" to overflowing.  Of course getting together with my family always means I'm going to have a good time, so that's already accounted for, but the rest was truly frosting of the best flavor!!

  • Jenny Oaks Bakes is a genius with a violin, and so gifted- she made the hairs on the back of my neck stand at attention while soothing my soul at the same time!!
  • Two ladies from "Two Bites" (cooking business)  were hilarious with their comments on the things we feel insecure about and wish we could be like Martha Stewart in our homemaking. Reminded me to laugh about all the stuff, not just the little stuff.
  • Shari Dew spoke on how the church values women-things I hadn't thought of before.  Very powerful and smart, and it put things into perspective as she gave an overview of how we are given opportunities to lead that no other womens organization gets.
  • Chris Williams spoke on forgiveness and amazed me at his walk with the Savior in letting go of his hurt towards the drunk young man that killed his wife unborn baby and two small children. Very powerful and human. He saved the young man with his choices.
  • John Bytheway is just always good, funny and leaves me with a desire to be better
  • Mercy River- a group of three women shared fun and interesting snipets from their lives and sang to illustrate the message.  The lyrics were fantastic and very poignant.
  • Emily Freeman shared her feelings about how we put so much on the beginning and the end of things, she wanted to focus on the middle where time just seems to drag. She shared some scriptures from the old testament that were surprisingly loving and inspiring.
  • Brad Wilcox was funny and inspiring talking about how important names were and how the Savior knows our name and we as members should know his.  It was funny, and powerful and memorable. He's awesome to me as he served right before I got to Vina del Mar and wrote the song for our mission and he was McKae Ballard's misson president. He is so energetic.

OOPS!!  Which of these ones is not like the other

We laughed, we cried, we ate,we swam, we jacuzzied we walked- we learned.  We were sad when we had to leave each other to drive home! But thanks to Brittany we attended the event and had a great time!! We hope to make it a tradition and that will be great!!

By the end of the weekend Gramma was really tired so we had to carry her from place to place......  jklol!!  :) This was one of our fun poses -she loved it!! Although we didn't drop her, I think when the three young ones decided to stand without telling Gramma or me it was a little scary!!  They actually pulled me right up when they thrusted her so quickly, I didn't need to know!  She was game for the fun and we didn't brake her!

We took the time out and it was well worth it!!

Happy Birthday Mom- 18 Oct 2012 :)

My Mom was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on October 18 in a year long long ago, 1939.   She had dark hair and wise eyes and she was welcomed by her parents and her brother William. ( she better have been welcomed by her brother William!!) She grew up and got pretty and smart and liked to do the things girlies do, but not the irritating things like being phony or caddy or prissy. Why I don't have pictures of her growing up is something I'm surprised at and disappointed for, but I will make up for that.

Late in her high school years her family moved to a town where my dad lived. They fell in love and that was it!! They enjoyed hanging out and spending time outside and riding my dad's horse. They got married when she was 18 and started a cute little family.

Which grew quickly and came to include me.

Luckily I grew out of being cross-eyed!

My mom had her hands full while raising four little kids born four years apart and having all the energy and spunk she could imagine, but she did meaningful things with us.

Outside adventures exploring, hiking or eating!
Birthday Parties with or without extended family!

Crafting, artwork, costumes and using our imagingation!
I learned to trust my instincts with creating because my mom said I could, and encouraged us to experiment.

Holiday decorating, baking and visiting-sometimes stressful, but always looked forward to!
We had carnivals and theatre shows, we made movies and created radio shows. We drew, painted tried and tried to sing. We roller skated and rode bikes and were cowboys and Indians or the Jackson 5. We built crazy things with cardboard and eventually materials that could hold us.  I give a lot of credit to Jeff for thinking of the big things- he was a great director in making things happen and loved to make big productions and had the creativity to pull them off .

And we had the adventure of having animals- without mom that wouldn't have been possible with Dad's allergies.
My parents have been married for what seems like forever and have done a great job of hanging in there through some difficult times.  They are an example of working on differences and learning to override those differences for a greater good.  So proud of them :)

Another wonderful thing my mom (and dad) has done is give her grandchildren their own set of scriptures when they get baptized, and attend important events in our kids lives to show support, many times at great sacrifice.

At the start of another year I want my mom to know she has done a great job. She has been many thing for many people, but very special to me. She never imposed her needs over mine, she looked for ways to support me the way I needed or wanted to be supported. She generously and fun-ly contributed to every home I've lived in to add a touch of her whimsey and love. She set the example of forgiving and not holding grudges or even thoughts of past grievances- just letting it go like being swept off with a gentle broom; not orchestrating a way to get even.  She set an example of giving to neighbors, family, friends, and to the community as well as to self.  She inspired me to  appreciate the little things in books, art, and music and to surround myself with a bit of all of it to keep me smiling. She is fun, she is kind, she is willing, she is loyal, she is ever learning.  She's been giving us parts of herself all the while polishing the great person she is.
Thank you mom for being there for me and for all the wonderful years of learning we've been through together.  I love you today and forever!!
